Residents – please be advised that the dog park located in the vacant field at the Civic Centre will be closed as of 8 am, Monday, March 12th while the City undertakes the rehabilitation of the field for future use by minor baseball. Over the past few years, minor baseball user groups have petitioned the City to return the field to its original use, as it is one of the only fields with dimensions appropriate for younger users. This rehabilitation project was included in the 2018 capital budget, and is being supported through grant applications and donations from private funders, who will be recognized on park signage once the work is complete.
We understand that many in the community currently use the park to exercise their dogs, and would like an alternative location to do so. This is why the City coordinated with the volunteer group leading the Mckay Park project to integrate a linear dog run into their design plans. Fundraising for the dog park section at Mckay Street is currently underway, with the park installation anticipated by the fall of 2018. Prior to the implementation of the new off-leash area at Mckay, dog park users are requested to relocate in the interim to the alternative designated off-leash area, McClymont Park. When the Rushbrook Trail is open, dog walkers are also encouraged to walk their dogs on leash.
We recognize this may be an inconvenience, and thank you for your understanding. We look forward to hosting both little league and later this year having McKay Park’s off leash dog run in place.
